Vacancy: Research assistant in animal welfare

A research assistant position is available at Linnaeus University focusing on animal welfare and sustainable livestock systems.

Linnaeus University is looking for a motivated, experienced, and adaptable research assistant to join their team for a 6-month full-time position. The research assistant will support project administration, assist in report development, and occasionally contribute to organizing workshops. The position also involves scientific writing of papers and active participation in scientific activities related to animal welfare.

One of the projects, the research assistant would work on is the PATHWAYS project which is coordinated by the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) and comprises 30 partners from 12 countries. PATHWAYS is a 5-year (2021-2026), €9 million Horizon 2020 project aiming to reduce environmental impacts while addressing societal demands for safe, nutritious and affordable meat and dairy products by identifying and increasing sustainable practices along the supply and production chains of the European livestock sector.

Position requirements include:

  • A Master’s degree in Biology, Agronomy, Veterinary Science, or Animal Sciences, with demonstrated knowledge and experience in Animal Behaviour and Farm Animal Welfare;
  • Proficiency in both written and spoken English is essential, as all communication within the project is conducted in English, and the role involves substantial scientific writing and reporting;
  • Proven experience in scientific writing, strong organizational skills, and attention to detail;
  • The ability to work effectively in a team, as well as excellent communication skills, are crucial, as the project involves partners from multiple countries and high levels of interaction;
  • A proactive and flexible approach is essential.

Preferred but not required:

  • Completed PhD in a relevant subject;
  • Proficiency in Swedish.

Position: Temporary employment for 6 months.
